The full tummy tuck is for those who have excess skin and fat both above and below the umbilicus

In this situation, the loose skin above the umbilicus is elevated off of the underlying muscle and pulled downwards to tighten it.

With the skin and fat elevated, the muscle layer can be examined and tightened if necessary.

Usually all of the excess skin and fat between the umbilicus and the hairline is removed, extending from hip to hip. Any old scars in this area are removed including C section or hysterectomy scars. The final scar runs from hip to hip, but quite low, along the top of the hairline.

The operation is normally done as an outpatient and takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

This procedure can also be done at the time of a hysterectomy; Check with your gynecologist to see if we can solve two problems in a single operation!

We will measure you for a special garment which you will wear for about 1 month post op.

Drains are used for the first 10 days or so.

Patients can usually return to work after the drains are removed. We will advise you about return to regular activities - this is very individualized.
